Letter from the Publisher

November 17th, 2024

I love the promise of spring and all the wonderful books which arrive in our warehouse when it is still snowy and cold. This year we have a great line-up of new titles, many of which welcome the warmer weather we all anticipate, focusing on gardening, nature, and enjoying sunny days.
The Sun Never Hurries, published in June of 2024, received fantastic reviews, two of which were starred reviews from School Library Journal and Quill and Quire. Because this book performed extremely well, we are re-printing it in a new hardcover edition, which promises to be a very bookstore friendly format.
Chidori: A story of one thousand birds is a stunning new collaboration between Jennifer Maruno and Miki Sato. In 2011, when a tsunami sweeps over Japan, Hana and her family must find a way to cope with the devastation the giant wave has left behind. Miki’s distinctive paper collage illustrations add depth and grace to Jennifer’s story of courage, poignancy, and resilience.
Colleen Nelson’s new series for middle grade readers, Mystery at the Biltmore, received high praise from many literary journals, including Publishers Weekly, who called it an “engaging mystery, a series starter for early readers…charms from page one.” The next instalment in this series will publish in both physical book and audio format this April.
Wait Like a Seed, by Erin Alladin and Tara Anderson, promises to welcome spring with great read-aloud, non-fiction text which explores the relationship between the milkweed plant and monarch butterflies. Complete with excellent backmatter, this book will appeal to children who enjoy the outdoors, science, and nature.
As our new season gets underway, I would like to thank our new Canadian sales team, the Hornblower Group and Read & Co Books, for making such a great impact with our fall sales last season. We appreciate all your effort, and we look forward to our next season with you!
